Now I'm 12 so the book i'm reveiwing is one of the worst books I've read in my short time on this earth. Now this is because I'm almost a teenager. I'm mature. So something like this just does not make me laugh. It's crude, it's rude, it's not funny, it makes no sense, has rubbish illustrations, has a rubbish flip-o-rama thing (has two pictures so when you flick the pages it becomes a moving picture), and is a worthless pile of junk. Now even though I bought this book it doesn't give me the right to say all of this about it does it? No. That's just because it's my view. When you're young (recommended 6+) all of these things a mature (almost) teen doesn't find funny. However these are things that a young child will love. They don't care if it's complex or not. It has the sense of humor a young child will enjoy. So yes I might not like it but that's because I'm not the target Market.

My rating:0/10
Young childs rating:10/10
Worth buying? For a young child who is reluctant to read yes. For anyone else no.
What the series is about: A headteacher turns into a superhero (who wears nothing but underpants and a cape) and a duet of boys try to keep him out of trouble. The series follows their adventures.

I think you may be being a bit harsh on poor Captain Underpants! He has a loyal following with Y4-6 and, as you acknowledge, less able readers in Y7+. I think I can understand why. You and I may be more sophisticated readers, but I still enjoy "toilet" humour told by a good performer. And if the series keeps some kids in the reading habit I would encourage people to buy CU stories.
ReplyDeleteYes that is what I picked up on! I did say for younger/relunctant readers but it (as I pointed out) isn't my sense of humour. But yes Id encourage people to buy it. My brother really enjoys them!!!
